ALGURES CONTEMPORARY JEWELLERY SCHOOL
Algueres Escola de Joalheria Contemporanea was founded in 2022 in Brazil by Alice Floriano, Nina Lima, Nicole Uurbanus and Renata Porto.
We are an indipendent, hybrid school whose objective is to build a solid base through research and development in contemporary jewellery, focusing on Brazilian culture. Classes offered, theorical and practical, provide a space for in-depht discussion and construction for those who wish to develop their own expression without giving up the traditional jewellery techniques and ancestral knowledge allied to new technologies. We intend to stimulate critical thinking and experimentation through the creative process, thus preparing students for this market.
Classes, all taught in Portuguese, are offered both online and in-person, with short (per semester) and long-term Programs, namely;
Contemporary Jewellery (Foundamental, 2 years, and Advanced, 1 year) as well as a one-year Individual Project.
A scholarship is offered to one student per semester, considering financial and social conditions, gender and ethno-racial diversity.
As Algueres will exhibit student work at the 2nd Biennial of Contemporary Jewellery in Lisbon “Joias Polìticas. Joias de Poder”, the focus in the next two semesters will be on the political musical expression in Brazil.
