We’re all intrigued by jewellery as an object, but what about its relationship to the body? In her ongoing research, Julia Bocanet dives into historical ways of commissioning and wearing jewellery, many of which are lost to modern wearers today. She will tell you all about the peculiarities of rings during the Renaissance – hidden messages, uncommon ways of wearing, gemstone symbolism and the lost fashion accessories that accompanied them.
About the Speaker
Julia Bocanet, Jewelry Historian and Designer
Julia Bocanet is a product designer, graduated from Design Academy Eidhoven in 2016, turned jewellery designer and goldsmith after her apprenticeship at master goldsmith Dan Peligrad in New York. Bocanet creates autonomous designs and commissioned jewellery pieces within a modern aesthetic. Her passion for historical design and context however, has led to different private research studies, of which Forgotten Wearability is the first to go beyond her atelier in the form of a private publication and series of lectures.
