Komien Smit is a 3rd year jewelry design student at Stellenbosch University working towards her BA degree in Creative Jewellery and metal Design. Through the use of the ancient art of metal techniques, she aims to explore and express her thoughts and experiences. Drawn to color and the absurd, her pieces are designed to entice and invoke mixed emotions. Most of her pieces draw inspiration from her experience with strong emotional dissonance within her own psyche. She aims to take negative connotations of mental illnesses and convert them into positive truths to wear with pride while cultivating awareness about mental health issues.
