VICINO LONTANO examines the oscillating space between authorship and execution, between the varying definitions of goldsmith and artist. The first time pairing of Matteo Bonafede and Greta Penacca respectively illustrates the spectrum of collaboration between two seemingly disparate makers, whose particular collision defines the artist jewel for which BABS Art Gallery is known. Singular works from each maker will also be on exhibit; for Bonafede this will be his first presentation of such pieces in jewelry in twenty plus years. Characterized by exquisite engineering and a proclivity for minimal yet deliberate archetypal reconfigurations, his work is modern, playful and begs to be worn. Conversely, Penacca’s paintings and graphite drawings are loaded with a looser, more organic energy. The exhibition will also feature a piece of jewelry by Greta Penacca and edited by Matteo Bonafede.
