Gemstones are the most concentrated form of value. Some rare specimens, particularly rubies or fancy coloured diamonds, can store values exceeding EUR 5 million per gram (!). This makes gems highly mobile vehicles of value, especially in times of uncertainty. However, gauging the value of a gemstone is a complex topic, and subtle nuances can make a difference in value of orders of magnitude. Investing in gemstones demands expertise, as well as time, and a trusted network. With almost 100 years of experience in analysing the world’s most precious gemstones, diamonds and pearls, the Gübelin Gem Lab is well-positioned to give a glimpse into the topic of investing in gemstones.
